This expressive ink painting traces back to Nanzan Koryō, a Zen monk-painter known for his playful yet deeply observant depictions of animals. With only a few spontaneous brushstrokes, the cat’s face emerges, alert, curious, and slightly mischievous, capturing character rather than realism. The looseness of the line reflects the Zen approach to painting, where immediacy and intuition take precedence over precision.
For this edition, the composition has been carefully rearranged and subtly reinvented by House of Koyomi. The essence of Koryō’s original work is preserved, while the balance and spacing are refined to suit contemporary interiors.
